Aniline Leather

Aniline leather seems to be the most natural looking. It keeps the surface character.

Advantages: Aniline leather is soft and comfy. It keeps the  markings and character of the hide. It makes each piece unique.

Disadvantages:  A leather that stains easily.

Semi-Aniline Leather

Semi-aniline leather is a stronger than aniline leather. This is because the surface has been treated with a light coat.  This contains some pigment. Therefore it is more soil and stain resistant.

Advantages:  It maintains the unique aspects of aniline leather. This type of leather has more of a balanced colour. It is much more resistant against stains appearing.

Disadvantages: The markings are not as obvious. It is not quite as different as aniline leather.

Protected, or Pigmented Leather

This is tougher leather. That is why it is used in furniture and also car seating. Protected leather has a special surface coating that contains pigments.

Advantages: Easy type of leather to keep. It stands up to a wide variety of uses and conditions.

Disadvantages: This type of leather is not as original as aniline leather.
